Description
The Hopfield is a house built in 1933 by Colin Lucas as a weekend retreat for himself, designed in the International style. The exterior is made of rendered concrete. On the south side, there is a projecting dining room with a sun terrace above it to the left, and an inset ground floor window to the right, featuring a large window above and a balcony that wraps around to the east side, with a stair leading down to the east along the south elevation. The roof overhangs both balconies, supported by projecting joists. The east elevation has a balcony to the left with a stair leading down, and a large window below the balcony. The north elevation features a two-storey stair window to the right. The west elevation has the main entrance set back in a re-entrant angle to the left, with the first floor supported on a square pier at the corner of the block, and double glazed doors. All original metal-framed casements are intact. Inside, there is a concrete spiral staircase.
