Description

Cobblestones, The Homestead, and The Red Cottage are a group of three former cottages, originally seven, dating from the 14th to 17th centuries. The buildings are arranged in an L-shaped plan that follows the curve of the road. The Homestead is located at the eastern end of the row, forming the lower bar of the L. It features late 18th century brown random rubble stone with some flint galletting and has a plain tiled ridge roof. The building is two storeys high with irregularly placed casement windows, including those on the ground floor set in segment-headed surrounds. There is a projecting wooden oriel on the ground floor facing the road, and the entrance is on the east side of the wing.

Cobblestones, dated 1784, is constructed of brown random rubble stone with the same flint galletting and has a plain tiled roof with a stepped ridge. It is also two storeys high with an irregular two-window front featuring casement windows, again with segment-headed surrounds on the ground floor. A later addition is the central hipped porch.

The Red Cottage may have originally been a 16th century hall-house but has undergone significant alterations. It features a red brick ground floor and a tile-hung first floor, with the southern ground floor roughcast. Some exposed framing is visible on the ground floor. The roof is hipped and plain tiled, and the building is two storeys tall with irregularly placed small wooden casements, including those on the right of the ground floor in segment-headed surrounds. There is a modern lean-to porch with a tiled hood to the left of centre.
