Description
This stable building, located 20 yards to the east of Ightham Mote, dates from the late 19th century and is possibly designed by R. N. Shaw. It is constructed from coursed and galletted rubble stone with red brick dressings. The building features timber with plaster infill and decorated bargeboards on the gables, topped with a plain tile roof. The layout is L-shaped with roofs at different heights, and there is a lean-to shelter at the angle that protects the coach-house doors. The west gable includes a pigeon-loft with a pentice above it. The south wing has a central stable door, a subsidiary door to the right, and a three-light lattice casement window to the left. Additionally, there is a bird-house in the apex of the gable on the south wing and another lean-to to the south, which also has decorated bargeboards.
