Description
Old Basted and Cottage, now attached at the west end, is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century that was restored in the early 20th century. The ground floor features painted rubble stone on the right and painted brick under the gable on the left. Above, the timber-frame is exposed with herringbone brick infilling. There is a jetty supported by exposed joists and brackets under the left gable, along with some curved braces. The roof is plain tiled with a return gable to the left that has decorated barge-boards. There is one ridge stack off-centre to the left, one double stack off to the right at the end, and another stack behind the ridge on the left. The building is two storeys high with a three-window front, featuring 20th-century lattice casements and a central oriel window on the first floor.
Attached to the left-hand end is an 18th-century cottage, connected by a 6-foot wall with a central arch. This cottage is constructed of coursed rubble stone with red brick dressings and is tile-hung above. It has a plain tiled half-hipped roof and a north front that is one storey with an attic, featuring two windows with diamond lattice casements and a central semi-dormer.
