Description
Clakkers Hall is a farmhouse dating from the late 15th to early 16th century, originally known as Claygate Cross Cottage. The building features an irregular ground floor constructed of coursed, galletted rubble stone and red brick, with some exposed timber-framing. Above this, there is timber-framing with one curved brace to the right and plaster infilling. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, extending as catslides on both sides. There is an off-ridge stack positioned off-centre to the right, and a slope stack on each of the catslide extensions. The farmhouse is two-storeys high and has four windows with irregularly sized casements. To the left of the second window from the left, there is a boarded door.
Inside, the building features two crown posts, in addition to a hall crown-post that is heavily moulded on an arched tie-beam. There is a moulded dais-beam with crenellated cresting, and one doorway leading to the original parlour has a moulded wooden Tudor arch surround. One of the rooms includes heavily moulded ceiling beams.
