Description

This is a pair of houses built in the 1840s as part of J.C. Eddel's development of Vale Square in Ramsgate. The houses are rendered and have a slate roof, exhibiting Greek Revival detailing. They are two storeys high with an attic storey and a basement. The ground floor is distinguished by a horizontally rusticated base and giant pilasters extending to the attic storey. The attic storey has sunk panelled pilasters to the cornice and a parapet with terracotta urns and ball and steeple finials. A central stack rises from the roof. The attic and first floors feature four sashes with vertical glazing bars; the ground floor has bow windows with pilasters. Entry is provided via two-storey wings on the return elevations, featuring giant pilasters, a cornice, half-glazed doors, and rectangular fanlights within columned porches decorated with swagged urns and ball and steeple finials. Historical details can be found in the entry for item 12/389.
