Description

This is a house dating from the late 1840s, situated on the south side of Ramsgate Vale Square. It is constructed of brick, with the return elevations rendered and painted. The roof is slate-covered. The house is three storeys high with a basement, and features a horizontally rusticated base, cornices to each storey, rusticated quoins, and a cornice parapet to the roof. Chimneys project from the left and right ends. There are two margin light sash windows on each floor, each with a lugged and pediment-gable shaped surround, and cast iron balconettes supported by masonry brackets. The windows progressively decrease in size from the ground floor upwards. The basement has moulded enrichment. A double, semi-circular headed, panelled door with a rectangular fanlight is located within a small porch on the left return, accessed by a flight of six steps. The porch has a heavy cornice. The building is included on the register for its group value as part of J.C. Eddel’s development of Vale Square.
