Description
This is a pair of houses located on the south side of Vale Square in Ramsgate, dating from the late 1840s. They were constructed as part of J.C. Eddel’s development of Vale Square and are similar in style to property referenced as item 12/389. The houses are rendered and have a slate roof. They display a mix of Gothick and Renaissance architectural details. The buildings are three storeys and have an attic, featuring rusticated quoins and a cornice topped with pineapple finials, with two pedimented gables and stacks positioned to the left and right. Each gable has a single sash window. The second floor has four sashes with vertical glazing bars; the outer two have label hoods, while the inner two have pilaster surrounds, bracketed sills, and cornices. The first floor features a larger central design with canted bays to the left and right, incorporating cast iron balusters and bowed acanthus leaf rails. The first floor sashes are larger. The ground floor has two full-height sashes with vertical glazing bars and a central semi-circular porch with rusticated piers and a wall. The porch includes two half-glazed doors with rectangular fanlights. A two-storey garage extension, constructed in the late 20th century, is located to the left.
