Description

Port Regis School is a building dating from around 1750, originally intended by Lord Holland to house Anglican nuns, who never arrived. Instead, the building was occupied by several poor families connected to the Hollands and also served as accommodation for overflow guests from Holland House. By 1831, the convent was rebuilt and named "Port Regis" after the King's Gate, which was re-erected in its grounds.

The school is two storeys high and features a flint-faced exterior with stone quoins and dressings, topped with a crenellated parapet. The entrance has a doorcase set in an archway adorned with quatrefoil motifs. On the front elevation, there is a prominent three-light mullioned window flanked by battlemented turrets. The garden side also has two storeys of knapped flint with stone dressings, featuring two canted bays with three lights each, battlemented and separated by an archway. The windows are either mullioned or mullioned and transomed. To the right, a section of the building is crenellated and contains five mullioned windows, reflecting the original layout of five cells. The ground floor includes an arched colonnade and buttresses. There are extensions from 1870 and later to the right of the main structure.

All listed buildings within the grounds of Port Regis School are considered to form a group.
