Description

Tanworth School is a late 19th-century building with later additions, including a c1980s extension to the north. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond, featuring decorative herringbone brickwork, timber-framing in the gables with herringbone nogging, ashlar dressings, and cement render at the plinth in some areas. The roofs are gabled and covered with plain tiles, and the style is Queen-Anne Revival.

The school has a T-shaped plan with an additional shallow projecting range to the northeast. It is a single tall storey with three bays and a front wing. The entrance is located between the front wing and the northeast projection, featuring a plank door with a divided overlight.

On the left side, the projecting gabled range includes a three-light mullion-and-transom window with moulded mullions, lead cames, a chamfered sill, and a cambered arch with roll-moulding, along with bargeboards. The front wing has a tall mullioned window with two levels of transoms and bargeboards, as well as a moulded band and a slight projection at the gable.

To the left return of the wing, there is a two-light mullion-and-transom window. The main facade to the right features a tall three-light mullioned window with two levels of transoms under a raking roof, followed by a two-light mullion-and-transom window. All windows have lead cames, metal frames, chamfered sills, and cambered heads, most with roll-moulding. The front wing has an ornate bridged double ridge stack with star-shaped flues, and there is a further star-shaped internal stack to the left.

At the rear, there are six wooden two-light mullion-and-transom windows. The interior has not been inspected. All the listed buildings on The Green form a group.
