Description
Nos. 56 and 58 are a pair of houses located on Hardres Street in Ramsgate, dating from the 1830s. The buildings are rendered and topped with a slate roof. They rise three storeys and include a basement, featuring a rusticated ground floor. A plat band is adorned with four giant pilasters that have Greek-key incisions, leading to a frieze and cornice with a parapet and stacks positioned at the centre and to the right.
The windows are regularly arranged, with four glazing bar sashes on the second and first floors. The ground floor has canted bays that are flanked by fluted pilasters and cornices, also featuring glazing bar sashes. The entrance doors are located to the right, with No. 56 having a half-glazed door. No. 58 retains its original reeded and panelled door, which is framed by round-headed surrounds and keystones with an Anthemion pattern. The steps are bordered by simple rails, while the basement areas have Gothic pattern rails.
