Description

This is a terrace of nine houses, numbered 5 to 17, built in the 1830s on Ramsgate Church Road. The houses are primarily stock brick construction, with number 9 having a pebble-dashed finish. They have slate roofs, three storeys plus a basement, and include chimney stacks. Numbers 11 to 17 are built on a slightly raised terrace compared to numbers 5, 7, and 9. Each house unit has two multipaned sash windows on the second floor (a total of 14 windows), and one on the first floor, with a blank window space to the right on the first floor of each house. Number 9 has replacement windows. Numbers 5, 7, 9, and 11 feature canted bay windows with fluted pilasters, cornices, and multipaned sash windows (number 9 having replacement sashes). Numbers 13, 15, and 17 have a multipaned sash window to the left on the ground floor (number 15 has a sash window). All window and door openings have rendered surrounds. Each house has a six-panel door within a semi-circular surround, featuring Coade stone keystones carved with bearded faces, and flights of four or five steps leading up to the doors. Basement windows are each sash windows. Simple iron railings run alongside the steps, and fleur-de-lys patterned railings enclose the basement areas.
