Description
The Mill Shop, originally a granary for Sarre Windmill, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century, and may predate the windmill built in 1820. The building incorporates remains of whips from an earlier windmill on the site. The ground floor is constructed of tarred brick, while the first floor is weatherboarded, previously tarred. It features a hipped roof covered with old tiles.
On the front, the left side has a first-floor plank door with a ladder, and the right side has an early 19th-century plank door. There is also a first-floor plank door on the side. The ground floor has two rectangular openings that are blocked with plywood on the outside but still have iron bars inside; one of these openings retains its original shutters.
Inside, the ground floor has exposed spine beams and floor joists, along with remnants of grain chutes. The first floor features two jeweled posts with a curved profile from the 18th century, diagonal braces to the wall plate, a pegged roof with purlins and a ridge piece, and remains of grain bins. The winch for the sack hoist is still present. At the rear, there is a former stable that was re-roofed with corrugated iron in the 20th century, along with a 20th-century lean-to that is not of special interest.
