Description
This building is a warehouse located about 15 meters northeast of Provender Mill (Gilletts Ltd). It dates from the 18th century and was extended in the early 19th century. The structure is timber framed and partially built with red brick on the ground floor. It features weatherboarding and corrugated iron roofs. The original part of the warehouse is two storeys high with a hipped roof. The southeast elevation has a single boarded door on the ground floor, while the quayside elevation has a red brick ground floor with a casement window, a boarded door, and a boarded loft door above. The early 19th-century extension to the northeast has a gabled roof and a blocked loft door facing the quayside, along with a lean-to on the roadside (southeast). Large curbing stones are present at the corners of both sections of the building. Inside, the 18th-century part of the warehouse is noticeably older than the nearby warehouses, featuring smaller-scale framing and proportions, with squarer section timbers and larger, straight braces. This warehouse is an important part of the rare group of quayside warehouses preserved in this area, as indicated on the 1841 tithe map, and it groups well with Provender Mill, which is listed as Grade II*.
