Description

The Stocks, now Stocks Garage, is a house dating to the 16th century. Originally timber-framed, parts of the building display exposed close-studding with plaster infill, while the left side is clad in painted brick and the right side in weatherboard. The roof is covered in plain tiles and has stacks located to the rear left, rear centre, and front right. The house stands on a plinth, with a jetty to the centre right and a projecting cast-slide outshot to the right. The roof is hipped. The irregular fenestration features three wooden casement windows on each floor. A 20th-century flat-roofed extension, with plate glass shop windows, adjoins the left side. A boarded door and wooden casement window are set under a single segmental head in the centre, and a boarded door is present in the extension to the right. The building has, at various times, served as a garage and a public house.
