Description
Oak Farmhouse is a restored hill house dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is a timber-framed building with a high-pitched tiled roof, half-hipped at the ends, and a compound centre ridge stack. The front of the house has two storeys and three windows. The ground floor has been rebuilt in coursed galleted rubble with red brick dressings. A date stone, bearing the date 1744, is visible on the front. The windows are C19 and modern casement windows. There is a plank door with a bracketed hood. The gable ends are tile hung. At the rear, parts of a 17th-century lean-to remain alongside an 18th-century timber-framed, single-storey extension and an early 20th-century bathroom wing. The interior features much exposed timber, including one heavy moulded and embattled beam. Several Tudor brick fireplaces are present, some of which are damaged. An oak newel staircase wraps around a stout post. A hiding place is situated behind a landing cupboard, with an air vent to the attic. There is also C18 panelling, enriched doors, doorcases, and cupboards.
