Description

No. 121 Kippington Road is a mid-19th century lodge that was formerly part of Kippington House. It features a picturesque Cottage Ornee style. The ground floor is constructed of Kentish ragstone with galleting, while the upper part is timber-framed with close-studding and plastered infill. The lodge has a tiled roof and a ribbed brick chimney stack. It is 1 to 2 storeys high and has two windows.

The front of the lodge includes a large porch on the right side, which has a chamber above. This porch is adorned with elaborate barge-boards featuring cusped leaf decoration and a 5-light mullioned and transomed oriel window, above which is a carved Tudor rose. The porch is open at the sides and has four-centred arches, twisted balusters, and wooden seats, with a plank door.

To the left, there is a one-storey wing that has a mullioned and transomed window, and on the left side elevation, there is a 5-light canted bay with cusped barge-boards. The right-hand side features a gable with a mullioned window. This lodge was already in existence by 1860, as evidenced by an engraving by Charles Essenhigh Clarke. There is a late 20th-century extension to the rear, which is not of special interest.
