Description
The London Arts Vaults and Exchange Limited, Bank flat, is a former house that has been converted into a shop and residence. This building dates back to the 16th century and originally features a three-bay end chimneystack design. It was refronted in the early 19th century, during which a further range was added to the rear. In the late 20th century, a bank front and vaults were added to the rear, but these are not considered of listable quality.
The structure is timber-framed and has been refronted in painted brick. It has a hipped slate roof with an end stone chimneystack, which is partially embedded in the adjoining property and topped with brick. The building is two storeys high and has four windows. There are two parallel ranges, and the windows are early 19th-century 9-pane sashes.
On the first floor, there are three jowled corner posts, with the central post featuring a large curved brace attached to the tie beam. The attic includes a collar beam with mortices for braces. The ground floor was not inspected, but there is a possibility of an open fireplace connected to the external stack. Additionally, a bread oven remains on the outside of the building.
