Description
No. 9 The Bank is a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It dates from the late 18th century, with a shop added in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with painted ashlar dressings and features a roof made of stone slates with stone gable coping and both stone and brick chimneys.
It stands three storeys high and has a one-window range. The entrance consists of a six-panel passage door with a three-pane overlight to the right, all set within a painted tooled stone surround. The projecting shop front includes a central recessed glazed door flanked by slender mullions with Ionic capitals and a corniced sloping fascia.
On the first floor, there is a canted bay window that rests on the shop projection, featuring plain sashes, angle pilasters, and a prominent cornice. The second floor has plain stone surrounds for two sash windows. The roof displays left gable coping on a moulded kneeler, with end chimneys—stone on the left and brick on the right. Additionally, there is an urn-shaped rainwater head on a lugged pipe on the left side. The interior has not been inspected.
