Description
Number 12 The Bank is a house that was later converted into a shop and is now a restaurant with a flat above. It dates from the mid-18th century, with a shop added in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble with ashlar quoins and painted ashlar dressings, topped with a roof of stone slates featuring stone gable copings and brick chimneys. It stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range.
There are steps leading up to a two-panel door with a two-pane overlight, set in a painted stone surround to the right of the centre. To the left, the 19th-century shop front has a step up to a central recessed half-glazed door and overlight, with an arcaded front for the door and windows. The shop front features panelled pilasters and elliptical heads above two left-hand and one right-hand plate-glass lights. A full-width renewed fascia, supported by fruit-carved end brackets, obscures the original shop fascia and cornice. The windows to the right of the door and on the upper floors are four-pane sashes in painted surrounds, with smaller windows on the top floor. The roof is hipped on the right side and has renewed brick ridge chimneys. The right return of the building has a plain stone surround for a yard door on the right and a four-pane sash window on each floor to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
