Description
No. 8 The Bank is a house located in Barnard Castle, dating from the late 18th century with some alterations from the 19th century. The exterior features painted rough render with painted ashlar dressings and a roof made of graduated stone slates, complemented by yellow brick chimneys. The building stands three storeys high and has a three-window range. The left side has an early 20th-century half-glazed door set in a doorcase that includes a raised pediment supported by panelled pilasters and an entablature. To the right, there are two plain sashes in simple reveals with projecting stone sills, which may have replaced a shop window. Above these, there are painted plain-stone surrounds to four-pane sashes, with the ones on the second floor being smaller and positioned towards the right of the elevation. The roof features a chimney at the left end. The interior has not been inspected.
