Description

The Retreat Almshouses are a range of late 19th-century almshouses, built in the traditional colligrate style, located on The Drive. The complex comprises Nos 1 and 2, along with Nos 3 to 8 consecutively. They are one storey in height with an attic, and constructed of stone with some brick dressings. The roofs are slate-covered. Each unit features a porch with a Tudor-arched doorway and mullioned windows. The composition is distinguished by prominent, twisted chimney stacks built of red brick.
