Description
The Church of St Paul, built in 1880 by E L Hall, is a cruciform church without aisles, designed in the Early English style. The exterior is constructed of pointed rubble, while the interior features ashlar stonework. Notable architectural elements include a bellcote with a tall shingled spire at the crossing and an apsidal west baptistery. The reredos consists of a plainly-framed white marble relief depicting the Adoration of the Magi, designed by W R Lethaby and executed by Henry Pegram and his pupil Stirling Lee, showcasing a forward-looking and individual style. A free-standing cross in front is part of the overall design. The chancel screen and choir stalls were also designed by Lethaby. Additionally, the organ case, created by F C Eden in 1923, features carved brackets illustrating the Good Shepherd parable in a Kentish setting.
