Description

Forge House is a small, two-story cottage dating from the mid-to-late 19th century, situated on The Green in Leigh. It is L-shaped with a projecting gable on the left side. The roof is tiled, with brick chimneys. The left gable end and the first floor are half-timbered with plaster infill, featuring overhanging brackets. A carved beam is positioned above the upper window, and the bargeboard is moulded. The remainder of the first floor is tile-hung, except for a slightly projecting oriel window with a gabled peak on the inner right return, which is half-timbered. The ground floor is brick, with stone quoins and window dressings. A plank door is situated under a hipped tiled porch in the angle of the building. The ground floor window on the left is a canted bay, while the window on the right is narrow and segment-headed. Forge House is part of a group with South View, Nos. 1 to 7 Forge Square, The Forge, and is valued for their collective group value.
