Description

The Bird House is an ornamental Gothic summerhouse, now converted into a gamekeeper's cottage, located in Knole Park. It dates from around the early 19th century but incorporates an older structure. The building is octagonal in shape and features a conical slate roof, with two supporting towers on the sides. There is a projecting gabled porch on the north side, which has a statue at the apex of the gable. The elevations are rough plastered and include small Gothic casement windows and dormers, as well as flat dentilled eaves and a gutter. The Bird House is situated in a grotto, with 18th-century ruins nearby.
