Description

The Gothick summerhouse at Barnsley House, dating from around 1770, is a small garden structure designed in the Gothick style. It features coursed rubble with curved sides and a slate roof that slopes backwards from below the parapet. The front is made of ashlar and showcases Perpendicular trefoil panelling, a large central moulded ogee archway, and small open trefoil arches on either side, all within moulded surrounds. The parapet includes a raised central panelled section and end pinnacles that sit atop stepped diagonal buttresses. Access is provided by three stone steps.
