Description

The Manor House, located on High Street, was built in 1614 and is a late 18th-century structure. It is constructed from coursed local stone with flint infilling in the mortar joints. The building features a symmetrical façade with two storeys and a window arrangement of 2.1.2, where the central part is slightly recessed. It has corner and end pilasters, a plinth, and a band. The projecting moulded flat modillioned cornice and concealed gutter complement the hipped slate mansard roof, which has end stacks and five flat-roofed leaded dormers containing sash windows, along with a large central dormer.

The ground floor has sash windows with the bars removed, while the first floor retains sash windows with bars and 19th-century ornamental sunblind cases. A prominent feature is the projecting flat-roofed glazed porch, which has rounded corner pilasters, an entablature, and a flat modillioned cornice. The porch includes wide glazed double doors with a rectangular fanlight above, and inner glazed double doors topped with a late 18th-century fanlight featuring tracery.

To the left of the main elevation, there is a one-storey wing with a hipped slate roof and two sash windows. The rear elevation is similar but includes large Edwardian bay additions. Inside, the hall features an elliptical well staircase that is illuminated by a domed skylight.

Historically, The Manor House was originally built as a Dower House for Knole Park. It is part of a group with Nos 6 to 24 (even).
