Description
Shootfield House is a Grade II listed building that was originally a Dower House on the Chevening Estate. It consists of two adjoining blocks, with the larger block on the left dating from around 1830. The house is two storeys high and features three windows. It has a fairly low-pitched slated roof with an eaves soffit and is constructed of stucco.
On the first floor, there are sash windows with glazing bars set in moulded architraves. The central entrance has four steps leading up to a double door made of six fielded panels, framed by a wooden doorcase with pilasters, console brackets, and a cornice. This entrance is flanked by bow windows that have curved sashes with glazing bars and are topped with conical lead roofs. Below, there are oval basement windows.
The left side of the house features a loggia with a swept lead hood supported by paired slender hexagonal columns along the ground floor. Long casement windows in moulded architraves are present within this loggia. The right block, which is similar in style to the main block, may be an older building that was modernised around 1830. It has sash windows with glazing bars, with those on the first floor set in wooden architraves that include blind cases.
