Description
The Castle Inn is a 16th century framed structure with an early 17th century gable end projection and later alterations to its exterior. It has two storeys and an attic window in the gable end, along with a half cellar light. The elevation is tile hung and features a wide stone plinth. The building includes diamond paned casement windows and a projecting octagon bay that rises two storeys, showcasing mullioned and transomed windows. This bay supports an oversailing gable end adorned with ornamental pendant brackets and bargeboards, along with a central hanging pendant and a moulded tie beam. The roof is covered with ridge tiles and has a stack. There is a small restored projecting tiled porch with an ornamental hanging lamp. The side elevation reveals exposed timber framing with brick infilling and a tile hung gable end. Inside, the ceilings are low with exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace. In front of the inn, there is a cobbled stone verge leading to the roadway. The Castle Inn, along with Nos 1 to 4 (consecutive) and No 6, as well as the gate to Coddingstone Castle, form a group.
