Description
No. 2 High Street is an early 18th-century building that conceals a 16th-century framed structure. It features a continuous ridge roof and is two storeys high. The exterior is constructed of brick with blue headers, and it has a brick plinth and band, along with projecting brick pilasters at each end. The eaves are moulded wood, supported by brackets.
The symmetrical front has a central panelled door with moulded jambs and a projecting hood above. On either side of the door, there are casement windows set under segmental arches formed by the end headers. To the right of the door is a small slit light, and to the left, there is a small recessed panel that matches the slit light.
On the first floor, there is a central brick panel above the door, with a casement window on either side. Above these windows, there is a small slit light, with a brick panel above it to maintain symmetry. The building features diamond-paned casements throughout. At the rear, the ridge tile roof extends down as a lean-to, which includes a small hip-tiled dormer.
No. 2 High Street is part of a group that includes Nos. 1 to 4 (consecutive), No. 6, The Castle Inn, and the gate to Chiddingstone Castle.
