Description
The Castle Public House is an inn with origins dating back to the 17th century. It is constructed from local stone rubble with Ham stone dressings and features a thatched roof between coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks at the ends and in the middle. The building is single-storey with attics and has six bays.
In the first bay, there is a two-light hollow chamfered mullioned window with casements and a label. The second, fourth, and sixth bays have three-light casements with exposed timber lintels. The third bay features a boarded door set in a chamfered cambered arch with a stone slab porch, while the fifth bay has a boarded door with a moulded flat stone hood supported by stone corbels.
The upper windows consist of small three-light casements in the first, fourth, and sixth bays, which are set into the thatch. There is also a two-light chamfered mullioned window at the first-floor level. On the east gable, there is a hexagonal single-storey thatched extension with raked brick piers at the corners. The public rooms do not contain anything of significance, and the remainder of the building was not seen.
