Description
No. 64 High Street is part of a terrace of six houses, built in 1887. The building is constructed from cut and squared ham stone, featuring ashlar dressings, and has a roof covered with plain clay tiles that have a moulded ridge. It has two storeys and one bay. The windows are chamfered and mullioned, with two lights below a string course and three lights above, divided into small panes. The exposed rafter ends add to its character. To the left of the window, there is a segmental arched doorway with a boarded door that has a glazed upper part. The interior has not been seen. This terrace is notably well detailed, exhibiting a deliberate 'spoiled symmetry' in the style of Norman Shaw, and is indicative of the early 'Garden City' houses. It is an early and little changed example of its kind.
