Description

The front boundary walls and railings run along the north side of High Street, West Coker, and are dated 1887. They were constructed using cut and squared Ham stone, with cast iron railings affixed. The walls are approximately 600mm high and feature shaped ashlar copings, interspersed with piers of matching design, about 1 metre high, and incorporating gaps for gateways. The railings consist of two horizontal rods fixed within simple ā€˜I’ section posts. These elements originally fronted a notable terrace of houses, a style relatively uncommon in Somerset, and contribute significantly to the area's group value.
