Description
The Bull Hotel is an inn that dates back to the late 16th century, with additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries that project in front and at right angles on the right side. The building has two storeys and features a timber frame with painted brick infill, a colour-washed brick ground floor front, and an old tiled roof with gables and irregular brick chimneys.
The west front consists of five irregular bays. The first, second, and fourth bays from the left have upper projecting bays with gabled heads. The second bay has a cill supported by a central bracket. The leftmost bay contains a three-light early 19th-century wood casement window, while the second bay has a similar four-light window flanked by doors. The right side features a chimney with a lean-to over its lower part and a gabled bay to the right.
Inside, the timber frame is nearly complete, with all floor beams and joists stop-chamfered, except for the service end. The first-floor casements are located in their original openings, which still have original shutter grooves. There is also a blocked original window opening at the ground floor left-hand rear north end, which retains diamond mullions. The roof structure includes a queen post with clasped purlins, original rafters, and large curved windbraces.
