Description
The Malt House, now part house and part shop, dates from the 16th century or earlier. It is a long one and a half storey building with a later added floor. The structure is timber framed with painted brick infill and part painted brick with a rendered plinth. It has an old tile roof featuring an early 19th century brick chimney offset on the ridge and a hipped east end. The first floor has seven modern casements of various sizes, while the east side features 2-light leaded timber framed windows. On the ground floor, there are three irregularly spaced windows with diamond mullions and two modern wood doors. The east corner has a jettied first floor, and the brick ground floor returns onto High Street, where there is a small braced and battened loading door. Inside, many original timber framed members are visible.
