Description

The Castle Inn is an inn that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th century and later. It features a rear outshut and is constructed with a timber frame, roughcast, and colourwashed exterior. The roof is made of old tiles and has a large chimney located south of the center, which has a cluster of six rectangular shafts. The building has two storeys.

The west front includes a hipped section on the right that was refronted in the 18th century. It has one large upper window that is a four-pane sash, and on the ground floor, there are three coupled sashes along with a half-glazed door on the right. The main part of the west front consists of five bays, with the first, second, and fourth upper windows from the left being flat angular bays set on cills, featuring glazing bars. The third and fifth upper windows are early 19th-century two-light casements. The ground floor has four bays with three-light sash windows that also have glazing bars, and there is a six-panelled door in the third bay from the left, which is sheltered by a flat hood supported by wrought iron brackets. The upper room of the west front was formerly used for wakes and overlooks the old bowling green, which is still in use. Inside, much of the timber frame is visible.
