Description
Hurst Grove is a large country house from the 18th century that has been altered. It is built of colourwashed brick and features a balustraded parapet on the southeast front, topped with a hipped old tile roof. The original layout was square, with a service wing to the northwest. The house has two storeys, and both the southeast and southwest fronts each have three angular bays, a string course at the first-floor level, vertical sliding sash windows with glazing bars, and French casements on the ground floor. There are significant 19th and 20th-century extensions added to the northeast. Inside, the house includes an 18th-century staircase with delicate turned balusters and some 18th-century fireplaces that were relocated from Shinfield Manor.
