Description

Vine Cottage is a late 15th-century hall house with a 17th-century extension, altered over time, constructed of timber framing with brick infilling and an old tile roof. The original structure comprised four framed bays on the north side, with a 17th-century chimney inserted into what was formerly a smoke bay. A two-bay 17th-century extension was added to the south, set at a right angle to the original building. The cottage is two storeys high. All windows are 20th-century leaded casements, some with two lights, some with three, with an irregular arrangement. A 20th-century entrance door is located centrally on the south front of the 17th-century extension, and a single-storey 20th-century extension is to the north. The interior retains much of the timber frame, which is visible and largely intact. The roof in the 15th-century section still has plastered rafters and soot markings from the original smoke bay.
