Description
The ha-ha in the grounds of Vinters dates from the 18th century. It is constructed from coursed, squarely cut, nearly ashlar blocks of stone, featuring some moulded coping. This section differs in character from the two stretches above it. The ha-ha stands about 5 feet high, with the top of the ditch approximately 12 feet below the top of the wall. It forms the south pier of a gateway and runs south for about one yard without a ditch. The main part of the wall, along with the ditch, turns a corner and extends east for about 35 yards from the south gate pier. It appears to be ramped in three or four sections, rising to the east, and it terminates at what may be the site of another gate. This ha-ha is part of the structure that once encircled Vinters.
