Description
Blacksmith's Cottage is a house dating from the 15th century, with later 20th-century alterations. It is timber-framed and rendered, topped with a plain tile roof. The building features a Wealden design with two roughly equal bays and a storeyed bay at the left end. The left end has a jetty that is underbuilt but was formerly returned to the left. There is a solid bracket beneath the central tie, with one original and one 20th-century brace supporting the flying wall-plate. The house has a brick stack at the left end and a multiple brick ridge stack towards the right end. The windows are irregularly placed, consisting of two 3-light wood casements. A large 20th-century rendered porch with a boarded door is located at the left end of the hall, and there are 20th-century brick buttresses on the right gable end. Inside, the cottage features exposed timbers, a moulded dais beam with a close-studded partition beneath, a fireplace with moulded stone jambs, and a moulded crown-post.
