Description

Garden House, built around 1911 by A.N. Prentice for Montagu Barstow Esq., who was the husband of Baroness Orczy, is designed in an early 18th century style. The building is constructed of red and grey brick and is a single storey structure. It features a plinth at the rear that transitions into a platt-band along the bottom of the side elevation, with quoins, a moulded wood cornice, and a panelled stone-coped parapet.

The north elevation has three glazing-bar sash windows, while the east elevation has two, both with cement cills and segmental heads, which are adorned with gauged brick voussoirs and cement-rendered keystones. There is red brick "chainage" between the windows and the plinth, and a stack is located at the west end. The south elevation, which faces the main house, has no windows but features a central recessed panel with a chequered pattern of red and grey brick at the parapet.

A porch runs nearly the entire length of the building, supported by four Doric columns that hold up a plain wooden entablature with a moulded cornice, arched over the central bay. The east end of the porch is glazed, while the west end has been filled in. The entrance consists of a central panelled door set within a moulded, recessed architrave that includes a triple keystone and panelled reveals. The building showcases a high standard of craftsmanship.
