Description

Bearsted Cottage is a house dating to the 18th century, with later extensions. It is constructed with painted mathematical tiles, brick, and tile-hung sections, and has a plain tile roof. The house is two storeys high with attics, and features a half-hipped roof with two hipped dormers, and a central ridge stack. The front elevation has three windows, with two early 19th-century ground-floor canted bays, all featuring glazing-bar sashes. A central panelled door is set within a 20th-century wooden porch with a plain tile roof and moulded balusters. Single-storey lean-tos are located to the right and left of the front elevation, clad in painted mathematical tiles. The left lean-to incorporates a small brick bay window with a plain tile roof, while the right lean-to has a glazing-bar sash window. Two-storey brick and tile-hung lean-tos adjoin these, blending with the original building's half-hips.
