Description
42 and 44 The Street is a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. It is timber framed with painted brick nogging and has a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and features a continuous jetty. The first floor has widely spaced studding with one arch brace towards the left end. The roof is hipped to the left, and there is a large stack with some flint at the base, projecting from the rear wall towards the left end. The house consists of four timber-framed bays, with the right end bay having been built or rebuilt later. The fenestration is irregular, featuring two three-light casements. There are wooden cills for two original windows towards the left end. The entrance to No. 44 has a half-glazed and panelled door located towards the left end, while No. 42 has a ribbed door with a glazed light positioned in the centre. Additionally, there is a two-storey rear wing with a hipped roof.
