Description
Maltmans is a house that dates from the early 17th century or earlier. It is timber-framed, with the ground floor featuring a chequered pattern of red and grey brick. The first floor has exposed studding with rendered infilling, and the roof is covered with plain tiles. The building consists of about four timber-framed bays, with the right end bay being narrow. It has two storeys and attics, with bay posts and studs visible around the windows. There is a tension brace at the left end. The roof is hipped to the left and half-hipped to the right, and there is a multiple brick ridge stack located over the right hall bay. A gabled dormer is also present. The windows are arranged irregularly, including a three-light casement at the left end, another three-light casement to the left of centre, a four-light wooden mullioned window beneath the stack, and a five-light wooden mullioned oriel window on shaped brackets at the right end. The first floor and attic of the right gable end feature ovolo-moulded mullioned windows. The entrance includes a ribbed door at the centre of the left end bay and a boarded door in a lean-to at the rear of the right gable end. The interior has not been inspected. The building was formerly known as St. Mary's.
