Description
This is a headstone for Mr. John Wise, located adjacent to the tombstone of Mrs. Elizabeth Wise at the Church of St Mary and All Saints. It dates from the early 18th century and is made of stone. The top of the headstone features convex shoulders with a bridge between them, and ribbons of foliage beneath each shoulder that connect to a small ledge. This ledge supports an inwardly-turned scroll adorned with a petalled flower at its center. In the middle of the headstone, there is a depiction of a skull and cross-bones with a scythe, along with leaves growing through the skull. The inscription reads: "Here lyeth the Body of Mr. John Wise of this Parish who was Buried the 25 ? of April 17(0?)5 in the 73 year of his Age."
