Description
Yew Trees House is a house that dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a front that belongs to an earlier timber-framed building and early 19th-century additions. The exterior is made of red brick in English bond, showing traces of red paint and possibly tuck pointing, topped with a plain tile roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, featuring a moulded plinth and plat bands above the ground and first-floor windows. A parapet made of chequered red and grey brick in Flemish bond is present, along with rear stacks on both the left and right sides. The entrance includes a 20th-century flat bracketed hood and a rectangular fanlight, with a half-glazed door that has hook and ring hinges.
At the rear, there is a central three-storey stair-turret. The right rear wing is timber-framed from the 16th or 17th century, with later brick nogging, and has two storeys on a stone plinth with widely spaced studs. The left rear wing features an early 19th-century front made of chequered red and grey brick, also with a plain tile roof, and has two storeys on a plinth with a stack at the right end. Inside, there is a three-storey late 17th-century staircase with turned balusters, balls above and below the newels, and a moulded handrail, along with 18th-century niches and exposed framing in the rear right wing.
