TQ 75 NE BOXLEY THE STREET (east side)

5/86 Lych Gate to Church of St. Mary and All Saints, and Gates attached

Lych gate. Dated 1875. Wood on stone base with plain tile roof. Low wooden screen on coping of stone walls with roll- moulded top and incised panels containing openwork circles circumscribing carved crosses. Bargeboards forming large trefoil, with recessed cusps to each segment and 3 chamfered circular holes containing recessed trefoils. Short solid braces to tie-beams and "wall-plates". Crown strut and queen post roof with purlins below collar. Curved braces on either side of crown-strut spring from tie-beam to terminate between purlins and collar. Dated "In Memoriam January 21st.1875" on west face of tie-beam. Gates with battlemented top rail. Listed for group value.
