Description
The lych gate, fence, and boundary wall at the Church of St. Mary and All Saints date from the mid-18th century. The west gateway features a mid-19th century lych gate, built in 1881 by Frank Miles. The structure is made of ashlar, brick, wrought iron, and timber, topped with a plain and patterned tile roof. The dwarf boundary wall is topped with plain iron railing. The west gate is adorned with an elaborate stepped and scrolled overthrow. The lych gate is supported by four strutted posts that carry strutted wall plates, and it has a principal rafter roof with collars. The west gable includes a bargeboard inscribed with the phrase "Through the Grave and gate of Death to our joyful resurrection," while the east gable features a fretwork panel. The east gateway consists of two square ashlar piers with pyramid caps, iron finials, a scrolled overthrow, a lamp bracket, and a pair of iron gates. The entire structure is approximately 75 meters long.
