Description
E.W. Dixon, Chemists is a shop, house, and adjoining workshop located on Market Street in Bingham. It dates from the late 18th century, with some mid-19th century and 20th century alterations. The building is constructed of brick, partly rendered, and features pantile roofs. It has cogged and dentillated eaves and a single coped gable, with two ridge stacks and one side wall stack. The structure is two to three storeys high, measuring five bays wide by four bays deep, and follows a C-plan layout.
The street front includes, on the left, a three-storey wing with a shop front that has a recessed central door flanked by single shop windows. Above this, there is a fascia supported by strapwork brackets. To the right of the shop front, there are two casements flanked by single doors, and further right, a single casement, all featuring segmental heads. Above, to the left, there is a sash window with a segmental head, followed by four additional sashes. Above this, there is a mid-20th century square dormer.
The rear of the building has three lean-to additions, which are single and two storeys high. On the left side, there are two casements, and on the right, three doors. Above, to the left, there is a square blocked opening with a timber lintel. The house front features, on the left, a door, and on the right, two sashes along with a mid-19th century canted glazed porch in the return angle. Above this, there are four different sashes, all with segmental heads, and above again, four smaller sashes.
The workshop range on the right includes a 20th century garage with a large door, while to the left, there is a Yorkshire sash and door, and above, to the left, two different casements. This building is included for its group value only.
