Description
This barn, located about 70 metres west-northwest of East Hall, dates from the late 18th century. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a stone plinth, with a slate roof. The structure features five timber-framed bays and a rear aisle, topped with a half-hipped roof. The front has full-height central double doors and a porch with a lean-to roof that rises from the rear aisle. Inside, the barn has shaped jowls on the principal posts, almost straight braces connecting the tie-beams and arcade plate, and pegged raked blocking-pieces between the tie-beam braces and jowls flanking the midstreys. The roof is constructed with staggered butt purlins, windbraces in the central bay, and vertical queen-struts to the collars, but lacks a ridge-piece. The walls have relatively close-set studding and straight tension braces, with staggered butt purlins in the aisles. The barn is included for its group value.
